Not sure what d'Addario means by soft/regular gauge. Ernie probably would have named it hybrid. Anyway, I like 'm. It really sound bright, but not too bright. I rate 'm 4 stars, 'cause the E string is just too thick for my precision bass. For now, they sound just perfect.
